Overview: This workshop will provide psychologists with practical information on dealing with a Board of Examiners complaint both from the Board perspective and from a legal perspective. Glen Davis, PhD, Board Chair will review how the Board responds to a complaint against a psychologist. Dennis Carrillo, a lawyer with Cloutier Carrillo, who has expertise in representing professionals deal with Board complaints will cover legal issues that psychologists may encounter in their practice, including when do you need a lawyer, how to identify appropriate legal advice, and how to handle a Board of Examiners complaint.

Objectives:  After this workshop participants will:

1. understand how complaints are handled by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists. 2. be able to identify practice situations where legal consultation is advisable and how to find a practitioner.
3. understand what to do if you have a complaint filed against you with the Board.

Presenters:

Glen Davis PhD has been practicing in Maine as a psychologist specializing in the evaluation of children and adolescents since 1986. A Midwesterner by birth, Dr. Davis travelled to the Green Mountain State to obtain his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Vermont. He has served as a member of the Maine Board of Examiners of Psychologists since 2004 and has been chair of the board since 2005. He also serves from time to time as the complaint officer for the board. Dr. Davis lives in Belgrade with his wife Cal, his two dogs and cat. Professional interests include school psychology, differential diagnosis, and empirically-validated treatments. He is the owner of Maine Child Psychology (www.mainechildpsych.com).

Dennis Carrillo, JD is an attorney at Cloutier Carrillo, in Augusta ME, who concentrates his practice in civil litigation, health care, administrative and commercial law. He is rated AV Preeminent, the highest possible peer review rating, by Martindale-Hubbell.
